When Xolar came to us, they had a problem many growing businesses face: their WordPress website was slow, dated, and wasn't generating the leads they needed. What started as a site rebuild has turned into an ongoing partnership — and the platforms we've built together now run the core of their business.
The Challenge
Xolar, a solar energy company, was struggling with:
- A WordPress site that loaded in over 6 seconds
- Poor mobile experience driving away potential customers
- Low search rankings despite quality service
- A sales team creating bids manually in spreadsheets
- No way to manage a growing network of independent dealers
Phase 1: The Site Rebuild
We replaced the WordPress site with a modern Astro build, focused on performance, SEO, and a content architecture the team could actually maintain themselves.
What we did
- Complete rebuild in Astro + Tailwind CSS
- Optimized images with automatic WebP conversion
- Structured data for local SEO
- Content architecture aligned to how customers actually search for solar
- Deployment to Cloudflare's edge network with 301 redirects
The launch numbers
- Desktop Lighthouse: 97 (up from 50)
- Mobile Lighthouse: 94 (up from 52)
- Desktop LCP: 1.3s (down from 4.0s — 3× faster)
- Mobile LCP: 5.9s (down from 29.8s — 5× faster)
- Core Web Vitals: all passed
The Bigger Win: Organic Traffic More Than Doubled
Performance is table stakes. The real story is what happened after launch: Xolar's organic traffic has more than doubled and is still climbing. Faster pages, better content architecture, and a site that search engines can actually crawl and rank turned organic into a dependable channel instead of an afterthought.
Phase 2: Custom Platforms for Sales and Customers
With the marketing site handling lead generation, we turned to the back end of the business. Over the next phase, we built two custom platforms for Xolar:
- A custom bid platform — sales reps create branded, consistent quotes in minutes instead of 45+ minutes in Word and Excel, with pipeline tracking and win/loss analytics.
- A branded customer portal — customers can check project status, milestones, and documents without calling the office, reducing support calls dramatically.
Phase 3: The Dealer Management System
As Xolar transitioned from a single operation into a dealer-driven business model, they hit a wall: there was no infrastructure to onboard dealers, assign territories, route leads, or track performance across a growing network.
So we built one. The Dealer Management System now runs a network of 60+ dealers and still growing. It handles:
- Dealer onboarding and account provisioning
- Territory assignment and lead routing
- Performance dashboards across the network
- Shared document and resource library
- Role-based access for dealers and staff
It was architected from day one to scale — as new dealers come on, the platform absorbs them without rework.
What Made the Difference
This wasn't a one-off website project. It was a fractional CTO engagement: strategy, architecture, and continuous delivery across every digital system Xolar relies on. The marketing site, bid platform, customer portal, and dealer management system all share branding and data flows — a cohesive ecosystem, not a collection of disconnected tools.
The combination of modern technology, thoughtful design, and proper SEO implementation created a virtuous cycle: faster site → better user experience → lower bounce rate → higher rankings → more traffic. And the custom platforms turned that traffic into a business that can scale.
